Political & Economic Section

The Embassy’s Political and Economic Section is staffed by officers from the U.S. Department of State.

The Political Section analyzes political developments and their potential impact on U.S. interests, promotes the adoption by Suriname of foreign policy decisions that support U.S. interests, and advises U.S. business executives on the political climate of Suriname.


The Economic Section advises U.S. businesses on Suriname’s investment climate and economic trends, and they negotiate trade and investment agreements that promote free trade. The section also analyzes and reports on macroeconomic trends and trade policies that will help make Suriname a more stable and open market, while promoting the adoption of economic policies which further U.S. interests.
